There are many treasures you can admire inside Saint Mark’s Basilica, such as the famous Pala D’Oro -a Gothic-Byzantine goldworking-, a collection of religious art’s findings mainly consisting on oriental antiques dated back between 6th and 12th century, brought to Venice after the conquest of Constantinople in 1204, but also of Venetian and Western goldworking’s work.

The Treasure is made up of about 300 relics, many of which obtained from precious material set with precious stone, located in three spaces: the Antitesoro, where the silver statue of Saint Mark by Francesco Francesconi (1804) is, the Santuario, showing 110 reliquaries and a rare oriental alabaster antependium, and the Treasure (restored in 1938).
The itinerary follows a chronological order, articulating among vases, urns, Egyptian and Byzantine and Asian goblets, Byzantine icons, glass and rock crystal goblets, reliquaries of 13th and 18th century, religious furniture, a Venetian goldworking antependium of 13th century, religious books’ bindings, such as the one of Saint Mark’s Gospel.
At the entrance, the historic cattedra di San Marco, (6th century), an Oriental cipollino marble (“onion-stone”) block.
Behind the main altar, it is possible to visit the magnificent Pala D’Oro, a Byzantine and Venetian goldworking masterpiece realized in different stages between 10th and 14th century.
